Michael Förtsch promovierte am Max-Planck-Institut für die Physik des Lichts in Erlangen auf dem Gebiet der Quanteninformationsverarbeitung, wofür er mit der Otto-Hahn-Medaille der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft ausgezeichnet wurde. Nach einem internationalen Forschungsaufenthalt am National Institute for Standards and Technology in Boulder, begann er 2015 als Strategieberater bei TRUMPF in Stuttgart. Im Jahr 2016 wurde er persönlicher Assistent des CTO der TRUMPF Gruppe, Dr. Peter Leibinger. 2018 gründete er das Start-up Q.ANT als Teil der TRUMPF Gruppe, das sich mit der Entwicklung und Produktion von photonischen Quantentechnologien beschäftigt. Zu den Produktentwicklungen von Q.ANT gehören Sensoren für die Teilchenanalyse, das autonome Fahren und die Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion.

The product with the shortest time to market is a novel particle sensing system. By exploiting superposition states of light, the sensor increases the information density per characterized particle. It analyzes not only particle size but simultaneously speed and propagation direction in real-time. This instantly available extra information increases the process stability and repeatability in many industrial processes, from food & beverage, chemistry, or cement production.
Based on its core technologies, Q.ANT is pursuing further developments of a similarly disruptive nature, like high-resolution magnetic field sensors, which will allow the control of exoskeletons or other machines by neural signals from the human body.
